GREENFIELD — Inside Ms. Valentine’s fourth-grade Federal Street School classroom there was a burning question a couple of students had: Will there be recess today?

Sadly, the answer was “no,” but that was because Greenfield public school students only had a half-day on their first day.

Superintendent Harper officially launched the 2018-2019 school year with the Convocation of the Greenfield Public Schools teachers on August 27, 2018. The theme for the Superintendent's 5th Convocation was "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" and centered around the educational messages in the lifetime work of Mr. Fred Rogers, the beloved children's television character known best as "Mr. Rogers."

Thanks to Amy Donovan, program manager of the 21-town Franklin County Solid Waste Management District, our kids are better composters than most of us adults. In fact, they’re so good that the district has attained a milestone: As reported recently, 38 schools around the county, including seven public high schools and five private schools, divert all food and paper waste from the cafeterias and kitchens into compost or livestock feed programs.
