Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
We are pleased to present the Greenfield Middle School Summer Reading List. We are working to ensure high standards and expectations for every student. We believe that literacy is a priority for all grade levels. We need your help in ensuring that your children meet these high standards. Your example, encouragement, and support will go a long way toward helping us reach the goal of every student becoming a competent reader.

Summer gives you more time for reading and to help your children develop a love for books and reading. The books listed on this form are available at the public library and our local librarians can certainly assist you. The authors and books suggested are only a starting point, however, the list was developed referring to suggested authors from the Massachusetts English Language Arts Curriculum Frameworks (http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/current.html).

Our early work together in language arts may include writings and discussions about summer reading experiences. We are expecting that each student will read at least 2-3 books over the summer vacation and be prepared to participate fully with us in September.

Additionally, here is a link to list of Good Reads recommended books (http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1145701) generated by GMS students surveying staff & students. It's unique to GMS.and consists of titles GMS students have actually READ. These are their favorites. They really did read them!!!

Happy reading!
Robin Shtulman and the Greenfield Middle School Language Arts Department
