We would encourage you to file an application for free or reduced meals. We cannot approve an application that is not complete, and the parent is responsible for any charges incurred prior to the application being received. Return the application to your child’s school.
Here are answers to frequently asked questions:

Children in households getting Food Stamps or TAFN and foster children. Also if your household income is within the limits on the Federal Income Chart, your child can get free or reduced meals.
2. Will the information be checked?
Yes, we may ask for proof of income of the information that you provided.
3. If I don’t qualify now, may I apply later?
You may apply at any time during the school year if your household size goes up, your income goes down, or you start receiving Food Stamps, or TANF. If you lose your job, your children may be able to get free or reduced meals during the time that you are unemployed.
4. What if my household size or income changes?
If your children qualify for free or reduced price meals based on your income you must tell us if your household size goes up or down or if your income goes up by more than $ 50 per month . call us at 772-1334. you do not have to fill out another application.
5. What if I disagree with the school’s decision about my application?

The School Lunch /Breakfast Program is a non-profit business that is not supported by local tax dollars. All monies needed to operate come from daily revenues and state and federal subsidies. Any funds in excess of those needed for day to day operation are used to purchase new equipment and maintain existing equipment. We are also required to have a reserve to cover periods of decreased revenue.
Since its inception the National School Lunch Program has always had as its premise the desire to ensure that school age children had adequate nourishment. Recent studies have conclusively associated proper nourishment with a child's ability to learn. To that end we have no desire to deny any child the opportunity to eat a meal in the Greenfield Public School Cafeteria; however we cannot allow students to borrow meals without consequence.
The following policies are currently in effect:
Greenfield High School: High School students are presumed to be responsible enough to have money to purchase meals with them daily. High School Students are not allowed to borrow in the cafeteria at all.
Greenfield Middle School: Middle School Students are also presumed to be responsible enough to bring money with them daily. However we recognize that they may forget on occasion. Should a Middle School student forget their lunch money they will be given a cold cheese sandwich and milk. There will be a charge of $ 2.00 made to the student account. And the parent will be notified.
Greenfield Elementary Schools: The computerized point of sale tracks those accounts that have a negative balance. Notices will be sent home at a minimum of every week. If your child owes money to the cafeteria we would appreciate your prompt response. If after five days of "borrowing" the account has not been paid, the student will be given a cold cheese sandwich and a milk. There will be a charge of
$ 2.00 made to the student account. The parent will be notified.
For all Greenfield Public School Parents: If you wish to pay ahead for your child/children meals you may do so for your own convenience. There will be a bonus policy of one free meal for every twenty five meals paid for in advance. In the 2007-2008, payments may be made on line. Information will be available soon on our web site. For further information please go to our website http://www.gpsk12.org/ and click on the MyNutrikids.com link. From this link, you may pay your child's account. All you will need is the child's name, student ID number and the zip code 01301. or see our instructions under the GPSK drop down bar on the website.
