GREENFIELD — With Veterans Day hours away, second, third- and fourth-graders sang about peace and America before dozens of parents and family Thursday night at Federal Street School.

Singing a selection of songs for the elementary school’s fifth annual Harvest Gathering event — a night of music, games and food for families of the school.

“It really connects our kids to the community,” music teacher Gina Clark said.

Normally with a chorus of about 80 children, Clark’s chorus featured a couple dozen students and a couple soloists Thursday.

The students sang to parents, “you’re a shooting star no matter where you are.”

Parents held babies and cell phones, recording the moment with their families together.

Clark’s chorus also sings at Greenfield Community College events and alongside the mayor and district attorney in the Town Common.

“My focus with these kids for them to be out in the community as much as they can, because they are the community and I want them to be as connected as possible,” Clark said.

Afterward families gathered in the cafeteria and ate fresh pie with Friendly’s ice cream and brownies, before heading back into the gymnasium for board games.
