PILOT PROCESS AND PROCEDURES

Teacher Evaluation:
A Contemporary System for Evaluating the Practice of Teaching

September 22, 2006

Overview
Over the last year, a committee comprised of teachers and administrators from all levels of the Greenfield Public Schools joined together to form a Study Group with the goal of investigating new approaches to evaluating the performance of teachers. This document is the result of the work of the Study Group. It explains the revised teacher evaluation procedures to be used by the Greenfield Public Schools. It should be noted that these procedures will be tested on a pilot basis. The purpose of the pilot, which is expected to continue for at least two years, is to provide opportunities to determine the need for any mid-course corrections prior to the document being negotiated into the formal collective bargaining agreement. The pilot will be assessed annually by consulting with the faculty and staff throughout the course of the pilot. During the pilot phase, the evaluation system will have the full force and effect of collective bargaining, as it will be enacted as a Memorandum of Agreement to the collective bargaining agreement during the pilot phase. The Study Group members are:

  • Frank Brower, Teacher and President, Greenfield Education Association
  • Donna Gleason, Teacher, Federal Street School
  • Carol Jacobs, Director, Teaching Learning & Accountability
  • Kirsten Kellogg, Teacher, Green River School
  • Chip Powers, Teacher, Greenfield Middle School
  • Deborah Prondecki, Teacher, Greenfield Middle School
  • Ed Reagey, Principal, Greenfield Middle School

The study acknowledges the support of
Joseph Ruscio III, Superintendent of Schools.
